Longtime girlfriends Serena Williams (USA) and Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) will play together in doubles at the Auckland tournament, which begins on January 6th. Former No. 1 in the world of single Wozniacki has traditionally started her season in the New Zealand race since 2015, this will be the first tournament predicted by football blog of the last month in her career.
As it is known, just over two weeks ago, the 29-year-old Danish girl, who was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 18 months ago, has announced she is ending her racing career after the Australian Open in late January.
Williams, another former No. 1 player in the world who has 23 titles in the Grand Slam tournaments individually, has not played doubles with any other tennis player besides her sister Venus in the 2002 competition. The Danish has also not participated in a duet race for mo re than three years.
The two are very close off the court, with the American being the bridesmaid at Wozniacki`s wedding on June 16 with former 2015 NBA basketball and champion David Lee. They will also play a demonstration match in Copenhagen in May, which will be the last in the Danish career.
'For a long time, I had the desire to play couples with Serena, but there was still no time. I`m glad this will finally happen, and especially in one of my favorite tournaments. It will certainly be a lot of fun.', Wozniacki comments.
