Scholes: 'Even my teammates did not know about my return!'

The former Manchester United player Paul Scholes revealed details of his return to football in January 2012 after he had given up earlier in May 2011. Then the legend of the Emergency Club again joined the team because of a crisis with injured players in the middleon the field.

Scholes wished to return to football and discussed with Gary and Phil Neville, who advised him to talk with Assistant Red Man Mick Fean, who was happy to agree, and David Gill prepared his contract. So the midfielder was ready for a re-debut against Manchester City`s rival.

'Alex Ferguson did not tell the players because I think he wanted to keep it secret. When I showed up in the dressing room, I was worried what the boys would think. I was a reserve and I was warming up for my shift when one of the co-coaches asked me "What the hell are you doing here?". I was asking the same thing, and when I entered, we had more and three goals ahead. Aguero reduced to 3 :1 by my fault and I thought "What did I do?".' The legendary midfielder shared and when he realized the time had come to end his career. 'I remember a match via soccer websites list against Tottenham at home - it was the third or fourth round of the 2011/12 season and I think we would be 3:2. I did well with the passes, but I remember how Moussa Dembele and Gareth Bale were passing by with ease. I know they do it with the other players, but then I thought I can not do this anymore. I wanted to quit very early in the season, but I thought I would look stupid.'

Before rejoining the club, Paul Scholes held a training session with the first team. 'I needed my shoes, so I went to the nearby store and got one pair for 50 pounds because I did not have a sponsor. We should not have allowed Nike to understand, because it would have been clear that I was coming back!', remembers the former footballer. He also revealed the reason why Paul Pogba left the team in the direction of Juventus. 'Ferguson wanted to train the reserve team and I agreed. At that time, there were Jesse Lingard and Pogba. Then the injuries came and as far as I remember, Phil Jones and Fabio da Silva had to play as central midfielder against Blackburn, I think. I think Pogba decided to leave us because he thought he deserved to play for them. But he did not perform well enough in the reserves to get into the first team.', Paul Scholes finished.
